Department of Urban Planning and Design releases architectural study of Burton Street

Over the past few years, City staff have worked closely with the Burton Street Community Association to help implement the Burton Street Neighborhood Plan, which was approved by City Council in 2018. The plan outlines goals and strategies to preserve the character of the neighborhood, among other priorities for the neighborhood. And, therefore, the city and the community association determined that a digital pattern book should be created as a tool to help preserve community character and mitigate callous infill in the neighborhood.

As a first step in the realization of a model book, the City has contracted with SM&E in 2021 to carry out an architectural study of the district with the aim of highlighting the history of the district and illustrating the typologies of buildings. and common streetscape elements. The project was funded by a $4,000 donation from the Burton Street Community Association, which was matched by the City’s Planning and Planning Department for a total project budget of $6,000.

The City is pleased to announce the completion of the architectural survey project and release the final draft of the Burton Street Architectural Survey Report. We hope you will join us in celebrating the completion of this important work. Stay tuned for updates on the upcoming Burton Street Neighborhood Pattern Book!
