Fans take last chance to tour the Ryder Cup grounds for free

WHISTLING Straits – For the last time before the Ryder Cup, those without a ticket were able to tour the grounds of Whistling Straits in Sheboygan County. Fans shopped early in the 60,000-foot cargo tent. Some took photos in the expansive plaza that will host the opening ceremonies later this week.

After Monday, only fans with tickets will be able to go out at Whistling Straits until the end of the Ryder Cup. Doors open for practice rounds on Tuesday at 7:30 a.m.

Brookfield’s Treva Leupold has tickets for later in the week, but also came on Monday morning. “We’re giving it a try,” she joked. “We’re old and wanted to make sure we could find him. And it’s a bit complicated.

Leupold attended the Masters and a US Open. She doesn’t want to miss any of the action when she returns later this week. “We’re going to be done with the shopping and we’re going to go to all the holes and watch all the players. I’m looking forward to it.

Among the more expensive items in the Ryder Cup store, Allen Edmonds shoes sell for $ 395. The mahogany color “Park Avenue Cap Toe” will be worn by Team USA during the opening ceremonies on Thursday. “We have the Ryder Cup logo laser engraved on the sockliner with their names,” said Allen Edmonds’ Ales Gmeinder.

The Port Washington shoe maker is proud of the mission, and Gmeinder said people are proud to know this local company got the job. “Certainly. Yes. We have seen a lot of pride from the people who have passed this past few days as well.”

The competition between the US team and the European team for the Ryder Cup begins on Friday.
