Haley Yerxa Earns academic honors from all CoSIDA districts
Senior becomes the first female golfer in program history to earn this prestigious honour.
FORT MYERS, Florida. – After an exemplary year in class and on the course, junior redshirt Haley Yerxa of the women’s golf team has been named to the CoSIDA All-District At-Large Academic Team, as announced Friday. Yerxa becomes the first student-athlete in the program’s history to earn this honor.
Earlier this spring, Yerxa was also named to the ASUN All-Academic Team for the second consecutive season after continuing to hold a 4.0 GPA in software engineering. She was also named a 2021 WGCA All-American Scholar and was a member of the President’s List, Dean’s List, AD Honor Roll, and ASUN Commissioner’s Honor Roll during her career.
Additionally, she was an inaugural member of the EAGLE Leadership Institute and a Fellow of the Eagles Council (SAAC) where she served last spring as Vice President.
On the course, she posted a career-best 74.14 average in 29 rounds this season (+2.34 against par). She had 10 rounds to par or better which led the team and three rounds in the 60s with 72 birdies on the year. Yerxa won the 44and Annual Pat Bradley Invitational and has four top-10 finishes for the year. She shot a season-low 209 in the Spring Break Shootout, highlighted by 68 in the first and third rounds.
For his career, Yerxa averages 75.40, the second best in program history, in 57 rounds and two wins. The 2021-22 season was his best in almost every statistical category. His 74.14 average this season was the seventh-best for a single season in program history, while his 10-round par or better was a single-season record. Her 72 career birdies are the second in FGCU history and she holds three of the program’s lowest eight single rounds.
The 2021-22 At-Large Academic All-District® Women’s Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top female student-athletes for their combined performance in athletic competition and in the classroom. Academic All-District® winners qualify for the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. The winners of the first, second and third Academic All-America® teams will be announced in mid-June. The At-Large Division is made up of student-athletes representing beach volleyball, bowling, rowing, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle , skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo on the women’s side of varsity sports.

ABOUT THE FGCU
FGCU teams have combined to win an incredible 92 conference regular season and tournament titles in just 14+ seasons at the Division I level. Additionally, in just 10+ seasons of DI playoff eligibility , the Eagles have fielded 45 teams or individuals competing in the NCAA Championships. In 2022, the men’s golf team became the first program to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. Eight FGCU programs have placed in the top 25 nationally in their respective sports, including women’s basketball (#20, 2021-22), beach volleyball (#20, 2022) and men’s soccer (2018, 2019) and women’s football. (2018) as four of the most recent. In 2016-17, the Vert et Bleu posted the department’s best sixth place finish in the DI-AAA Learfield Directors’ Cup and top 100 nationally, ahead of several Power-5 and FBS institutions. In 2018-19, the Eagles had an ASUN and Florida State’s top seven teams won the NCAA Public Recognition Award for their rate of academic progression in their sport. FGCU also collectively achieved a record 3.50 classroom GPA in the fall 2020 semester and outperformed the general undergraduate college population for 25 consecutive semesters. The past five semesters (Fall 2019 – Fall 2021) have each seen another milestone reached as all 15 programs achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher in each. The Eagles also served an all-time high of 7,200 volunteer hours in 2017 – being recognized as one of two finalists for the inaugural NACDA Community Service Award presented by the Fiesta Bowl.
