The school district is hosting a community party

The Chula Vista Elementary School District celebrates its 130th anniversary with a free public celebration from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Hedenkamp Elementary School, 930 E. Palomar St. All are invited to enjoy free food, entertainment live from students, interactive games and more.

Beautify Chula Vista Day Needs Volunteers

The City of Chula Vista and the South Bay Sustainable Communities Network are seeking volunteers for the 19th Annual Beautify Chula Vista Day Neighborhood Cleanup. The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at two locations — Otay Community Center, 3554 Main St., or City Hall, 276 Fourth Ave. Volunteers can choose the site they would like to beautify through activities such as litter picking and graffiti cleaning/painting. Students can earn community service hours. Free T-shirts, snacks and more. Some projects require driving or carpooling to another location. Supplies provided, but if you can, please bring your own reusable buckets, gloves, and water bottles. All volunteers must first register at Dial (619) 691-5122. COVID-19 protocols will be required for this outdoor event. Please do not attend if you feel ill or have symptoms of COVID-19.

Hotel hosts ‘Home Runs for Homelessness’

The InterContinental Hotel San Diego, along with the San Diego Port Police Foundation, is hosting homeless home runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to raise money for the Perkins K- 8 from Barrio Logan. Guests at this all-ages event can request an “at bat” song, head to the plate at Lane Field Park, and hit a whiffle ball. Tickets are $5 for five strokes, with donations for the farthest ball. Then, enjoy a ballpark-style hot dog or cheeseburger in the center-right field on Bayview Terrace for $20 adults and $15 children. Special tour of the Padres Pad Squad and Swinging Friar, silent auction, bouncy house, games and more. The InterContinental San Diego and Lane Field Park are located at 901 Bayfront Court, San Diego. IB is looking for candy donations

The Imperial Beach Spooktacular Trunk or Treat will take place from 4-7 p.m. on October 29 at Veterans Park, and the city is looking for candy donations for the event. Any contributing business will receive a shout out on social media and have their logo displayed at the event. Drop off candy 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Senior Community Center, 1075 Eighth St. Contact [email protected] for details.

PAC gun owners will meet on Thursday

San Diego County Gun Owners, a political action committee, will hold their monthly South County membership meeting from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at La Bella Pizza, 373 Third Ave., Chula Vista . Dinner celebrates Latinx/Hispanic heritage

Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center is hosting its last dinner of the year at 6:30 p.m. Friday. This event celebrates Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month, sponsored by the Bourbon Maker’s Mark. Maker’s Mark will be making garden-to-cup cocktails while patrons enjoy the gardens. The recipes support free programs like Cooking for Salud, which has now graduated more than 375 Kitchenistas. The Columbus task force will meet on Thursday

The City of Chula Vista Columbus Statue and Discovery Park Task Force meets at 6 p.m. Thursday at 276 Fourth Ave. The task force worked on the transfer of ownership of the statue of Christopher Columbus from the city. Contact [email protected]

The gardening club organizes an artistic reception

The Bonita Valley Garden Club is hosting a free public reception from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Bonita Museum and Cultural Center, 4375 Bonita Road. Community members, including garden club members, created floral renditions of art for the Chula Vista Art Guild exhibit. The drawings will be on display at the museum until 2 p.m. Saturday. Village council to meet

The Paradise Hills Village Council meets Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at St. Timothy’s Church, 2602 Reo Drive in Paradise Hills, San Diego. Bring your ideas for Paradise Hills. The council meets every third Wednesday except in December.

Carve a pumpkin, get candy at the bar

The Rouleur Brewing Company’s North Park Dining Hall is hosting a pumpkin carving event with beer-candy pairing at 6 p.m. on October 26. The Howl-O-Ween event takes place on Saturday

TrustedHousesitters is teaming up with local nonprofit dog shelter The Animal Pad to host Howl-O-Ween from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Amici Amphitheater in Little Italy, 1660 Union St., San Diego. Guests and pets are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes while browsing photo booths, artwork, and pet treats. The free pet adoption event will also include pet caricatures, photo ops, raffles and prizes. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit The Animal Pad, an all-breed dog rescue that rescues dogs from high-mortality shelters in Southern California and Mexico. Visit
