This Vancouver-based brand creates the coolest custom ID tags for your furry friends.
Kissamo’s mission was to reinvent the humble pet tag into something fun that celebrates the four-legged family in all of our lives.
The company was founded in 2019 by Laurel Murray with the support of her husband, Jonathan Greaves, and their two pets.
As part of our Made in Vancouver series highlighting local businesses, we spoke with Laurel Murray, founder of Kissamo, about the inspiration behind her small business.
Vancity supports local businesses like Kissamo with various programs. Until September 30, Vancity enviro ™ Visa * cardholders will earn 1.5 times more reward points at select businesses through the Load Up on Local program. To learn more, visit vancity.com/local
She said she and her husband are proud parents of pets, but their Pet tags rust, peel and fall apart every 3-4 months, especially in the infamous Vancouver rain.
“These tags were also boring as bricks, so I set out to create something brand new to the market… tags that are fun, stand out and personalized for each dog and cat,” she said.
The idea for Kissamo was developed during the construction of their house in 2019, which involved new construction methods.
“While learning CNC manufacturing, I had the opportunity to experiment with acrylic on a CO2 laser machine. That’s when my light bulb hit – the machine is perfect for animal tags, including my own dog and cat, ”she said.
At Kissamo, they individually manufacture each tag. Specifically, their pet tags are made from laser-etched BPA-free acrylic, which provides much more precise and durable engraving unlike typical printed or stamped animal tags.
“Kissamo labels will never rust, ring, fade or weigh down our furry besties,” Murray said.
Each piece is custom made with fun, expressive designs that are individually designed for each pet.
Unlike other pet tags on the market, Kissamo tags are waterproof, lightweight, quiet, and UV resistant.
“Our aesthetic can best be described as cuddly emoji, taking inspiration from artists and designers like Lisa Frank, Takashi Murakami and Jeff Koons, ”Murray said.
Murray said their customers are slow to find the best tags to show how unique and special their pets are.
“And hell, when you see a dog or a cat wearing something absolutely adorable that makes you smile, I know they feel that love right away,” she said.
She is extremely grateful for all the support from them and their pets.
“One message that keeps coming up in our reviews is that receiving a Kissamo package is like receiving a gift from a friend. It is this feeling that is at the heart of Kissamo and that I cultivate above all. Kissamo is not corporate and I am not hiding behind the logo.
She would also add that it has been a blessing to be a part of the larger Vancouver manufacturer community.
“I have found tremendous support from other designers and creators in the city, especially other women. Vancouver has more artists and creators per capita than any other part of the country and this community has been an integral part of Kissamo from the start.

“I think deep down we all want to celebrate our super furry besties and I wanted to create custom designs that are fun and sparkling that show how special they are.”
