Will apply majority rule: CEC on the row of Sena symbols

The CEC said the polling body had implemented a transparent ‘majority rule’ process

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Rajiv Kumar, said on Tuesday that India’s Election Commission will apply the transparent process of “majority rule” after the Supreme Court allowed the EC to go from ahead with the hearing of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s group plea for recognition as the ‘true’ Shiv Sena and awarding of the party’s bow and arrow poll symbol.

The CEC said the polling body has a transparent “majority rule” process in place and will apply the same when considering the case.

“There is an established procedure. This procedure mandates us and we define it in terms of a very transparent process by judging and applying the “majority rule”. We will apply the “majority rule” whenever we consider it .will be done after reading the exact decision (of SC),” the CEC said when asked about the supreme court order.

He was in Gandhinagar to review the preparations for the ballot regarding the upcoming Gujarati Assembly elections.
